What Is AI Visibility?
AI visibility is how often AI assistants — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and the other answer engines — name a brand when buyers ask questions in its category, and whether they cite the brand’s own pages as sources. It is the AI-answer counterpart of ranking in search, measured from real answers.
To measure it for your own brand, with the same prompts on all 8 engines, see SeenMeter’s AI visibility tracker.
When someone asks an assistant for "the best invoicing tool for freelancers", the answer names a handful of brands and stops. There is no page two. Either you are in that prose or you do not exist for that buyer. That is what AI visibility measures: presence in the answers themselves, not position on a results page.
It is measured by running real buyer prompts through the engines on a schedule and reading what comes back: who was named, in what order, and which sources were cited. From those stored answers you get concrete numbers — a mention rate (say, named in 70.4% of tracked answers), an average rank when named (say, #1.8), and a citation share for your own domain.
Visibility differs sharply by engine. The same brand can lead in ChatGPT and be absent from Gemini, because each engine retrieves and phrases independently. That is why SeenMeter measures all 8 engines with the same prompts instead of treating ChatGPT as the whole story.
